Bloomfield Public Library History
In 1976 the Bloomfield Public Library started as a Book exchange in the home of Michael Greaney under the operation of the New Bloomfield Civic Club. By 1985 the exchange had grown into a type of lending library and was thus incorporated as the Bloomfield Public Library. At the time of incorporation, the Bloomfield Borough recognized the Bloomfield Public Library as the community library and appointed seven trustees.
In 1987, the Borough council donated space for the approximately 5,000 volume Library in the Borough Building. At that time the Library was funded through contributions from local sources, community groups and individuals.
Today the Library remains in the Borough Building and has grown to over 20,000 cataloged items. It is currently funded by state and local resources, community groups and patrons. The Library welcomes donations of books, DVDs, audio books and current magazines. Various programs are also offered to the public, and program ideas are always welcome.
