Over the past 25 years Newport Public Library’s annual bicycle tour has been a popular opportunity for recreation, food, and much needed support for a great community resource. We are pleased to announce that we will have two bike tours in 2024! We will have an Eastern Perry County tour on May 18, and our traditional Western Perry County tour on Sept. 28, 2024.
Our NEW May ride: In celebration of our 25th year, we invite you to join us for a new and picturesque ride through beautiful Eastern Perry County, starting and ending at Greenwood Elementary School 405 E Sunbury St., Millerstown PA. There is plenty of parking at the school. The rides include a Full Century, Metric Century, 50k and a 25K. The Full Century and Metric Century options include a scenic overview of the Susquehanna River, so make sure your cameras and phones are fully charged. The traditional September ride will once again start and end at Little Buffalo State Park.
The Full Century route for the May ride will consist of doing the Metric Century, 50K and 25K loops which will be close to 108 Miles. If you plan on doing the Full Century Ride you must start with the Metric Century Ride first by 7:30 AM. There is very little overlap between the three rides through eastern Perry County. We are planning a Full Century ride for 2025, but bridge repairs are keeping that from being a reality for 2024.
WE WILL BE HAPPY TO SEE YOU AT REGISTRATION ON THE DAY OF THE RIDE, WHETHER OR NOT YOU HAVE PRE-REGISTERED!
The cost for the May 18 ride is $40 per rider, which includes rest stop refreshments and lunch. Pre-registered riders also get a short-sleeved T-shirt.
The cost for the September 28 ride is $45 per rider, which includes rest stop refreshments and lunch. Pre-registered riders also get a long-sleeved T-shirt. We want to be clear that the only way to get a t-shirt for the September 28 ride is to pre-register for the ride by the date provided on the online registration website https://nplbike4books.itemorder.com/shop/home/ or by registering directly with Newport Public Library. For the September 28 ride the pre-registration deadline is September 8, 2024. Download the registration form(automatic .docx download)
We want to stress the importance of signing back in after your ride. We take our riders’ safety very seriously. We want to make sure everyone is back and has a chance to eat before we leave. If all of the riders sign back in, we know when it is safe for our volunteers to pack up and go home.
There will be lots of food and whoopie pies at the rest stops. The course will be closed at 4 PM, and we will begin to pack up the lunch about that time.
We are excited to see you all again, and we thank you for supporting Newport Public Library!
