Newport Public Library has received materials from the Office of Commonwealth Libraries to begin this series of PlayK programs for pre-kindergarten children and their adults. Children will practice activities centered around themes that are aligned with the PA learning Standards and Kindergarten readiness skills, such as using scissors, going over a calendar, and taking turns.
Each week, the nine key learning areas from Pennsylvania’s Learning Standards for Early Childhood are reinforced as children and parents play and learn together. Through the games and activities, children will develop fine motor skills, spatial skills and problem-solving skills, build their vocabulary, use their imagination, improve letter recognition and number skills, and grow narrative skills and comprehension. In addition, the activities are designed to encourage interaction in order to develop social and emotional skills. The best part is that all of this will be learned while children are playing and having fun!
