Come to Newport Public Library and enjoy the library’s enormous new collection of wooden blocks. There are over 300 blocks, plus figures of animals, people and vehicles. There will be plenty of opportunity for creative play, as well as building a foundation for friendships and development of team building skills.
These parties are a free open play program recommended for children ages 3 through 6, supervised by an adult. There is no registration… just come as you are.
Block play strengthens math skills, science skills, literacy and language skills, socia skills, technology skills, and creativity. This activity includes parental and caregiver input by providing an opportunity to ask you child open questions, such as “What do you like best about your building?” or “What animals live in your zoo?” Using your phone or camera, you can snap a picture of the project, so that the child can share it with others who were not present.
There are only two rules:1) No throwing of blocks, and 2) no knocking over what you did not build.
Block parties at Newport Public Library are the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month- from 5-7 PM AND the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, from 11 AM to 1 PM.
