Newport Public Library
Bike4Books Bicycle Tour!
September 25, 2021
Over the past 20 years Newport Public Library’s annual bicycle tour has been a popular opportunity for recreation, food, and much needed support for a great community resource. We are pleased to announce that we will have an in-person-on-the-road bike tour again on Sept. 25, 2021.
Here are some updates on our Sept. 25, 2021 Bike4Books bicycle tour:
We are happy to host this tour again, after our “year off.” The tour will be as much like previous tours as possible. The one change is that the lunch will be “grab and go,” not serve yourself. We hope to be able to offer our traditional array of lunch items again in the post-COVID future, but this year our goal is to keep everyone safe- and well-fed.
We ask that riders respect social distance guidelines at registration and at lunch, even though we will all be outside. Consider masking up for bathroom breaks, since bathrooms are enclosed spaces and ventilation is not always optimal.
We will not have plastic water bottles again this year. We provide water and Gatorade at rest stops, water and lemonade/iced tea at lunch. Please bring a bottle to refill as you wish. Most of you, if not all, carry your refillable bottles with you anyway when you ride.
We want to stress the importance of signing back in after your ride. We take our riders’ safety very seriously. We want to make sure everyone is back and has a chance to eat before we leave the park. If all of the riders sign back in, we know when it is safe to pack up and go home.
Many of you have pre-registered by the cutoff date. These pre-registered people will get a free t-shirt and lunch. We had to order t-shirts on Sept. 6. If you registered after the cutoff date but before Sept. 14, you will get lunch. We had to put in the lunch order on Sept. 14. We did order about 50 extra lunches, but if more than 50 people register on the day of the ride there may not be lunches available for everyone. There will be lots of food at the rest stops, as usual, and whoopie pies at the rest stops again this year, but we want you to know about this in advance so you can plan accordingly.
We will once again have t-shirts from previous rides for sale for $5 per shirt.
The course is being marked as I write this. We are excited to see you all again, and we thank you for supporting Newport Public Library!
