We would like to take this time to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2019.
We at Bloomfield Public Library would like to take a moment and share with you a look back at the past year at the library. Our new director, Julia McGuigan, took over the position in October and is looking forward to making the library even more successful in 2019. In a month, we average about 550 people coming through our doors. We have 1,754 active patrons, and a collection of 5,897 fiction books, 6,808 non-fiction books, 3,789 children’s books, 368 audiobooks, and 1,723 DVDs, and we are adding new material all the time.
We also support the community by providing six computers for patrons and non-patrons alike to access the Internet free of charge, and for a nominal fee, we provide print, scan, and fax services as well. Our annual events include the Summer Reading Program, Halloween’s Read and Treat, and Santa Claus’ visit, and we hope to be able to add even more events for children and adults alike.
We would like to thank the Harold Greaney Charitable Trust Fund for donating $1,500 that allowed us to update our computer hardware and software, and to the New Bloomfield Lions Club and Civic Club for donating $2,000 and $1,000 respectively. Through the course of this year, we also received a generous donation from Wanda Pines for new bookcases, and she also donated her collection of Zane Grey novels. Carrie and George Lyter kindly donated their nearly complete collection of Roy Chandler books.
Our latest fundraiser is ‘Buy-a-Book’ where one can donate $10 or $20 for a new book, and for $25 the donor will have their name on the bookplate. Come into the library and pick a card off the tree!
In order to provide more events, services, and materials for our community and due to the fact that the bulk of our income relies on donations, we are always in need of funds. So we ask that you think of us again this holiday season and choose to donate whatever you can afford to support Bloomfield Public Library.
Many thanks to you all and have a happy and safe Christmas.
